Yum Yai Street Thai

Yum Yai has wonderfully authentic Thai cuisine. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. But the food- the tom yum soup is zesty while the creamy tom kha soup adds sweetness to that zest. So far my favorite dish is the Crispy Duck Khao Soi. The sweetness of the sauce perfectly balanced with the spice had me eating it with a spoon after the duck and noodles were gone. And if you’re lucky enough, they will have some Mango Sticky Rice when you’re done. This is not a restaurant to miss.

My server Gina was amazing. As soon as you step in the restaurant, you are met with the most amazing smells. We ordered the dumplings and basil shrimp rolls for starters. So fresh and delicious. For mains, I got the Bangkok market fried rice w/ shrimp and my friend got the drunken uncle noodles w/ shrimp. A little taste of Thailand just off 280. I definitely recommend if you want to try something new and fun. Will definitely be back!

This review is long overdue. Yum Yai serves the best Thai food in Birmingham. As a Thai native, I can vouch that they're incredibly creative with their dishes while preserving authentic flavors. I love their Esan sausages as an appetizer and usually order papaya salad with fried chicken. My husband loves their Khao Soi. Their coconut cake is delicious, too. If you want to experience authentic Thai food, please try Yum Yai!

We were in Birmingham and had planned to eat at another spot, but came across this gem. The food was exceptional as was the service. Minnie, our server, was simply amazing. Her food recommendations were perfect. We had Duck Larb, Zaap Wings, Golden Thai Dumplings, and Crispy Duck Northern Khao Soi. She recommended the Siam Breeze cocktail but dialed back the sweetness, and it was perfect. If you’ve not tried this place, it’s a must. We will be back soon!

Yum Yai is hands down the best thai restaurant in Alabama. Every time we go, it is so hard not to over order! We have been to Thailand, and Yum Yai truly captures Thailand’s culture and cuisine. We LOVE their Tom kha and papaya salad with fried chicken. We ordered the Duck Khao Soi, it is Chiangmai on a plate! Boat noodles is also a great option if you’re in the mood for broth. This recent visit, they had a beer flight and it was so fun and delicious! There was Lychee, lemongrass, ginger, and coconut sticky rice. Must try!

Absolutely amazing Thai restaurant! The food is incredibly authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The restaurant is very clean and cozy, with a warm atmosphere and excellent service. The staff are so friendly and attentive, which makes the experience even better. I’ve been to Thailand many times, and honestly the dishes here taste even better than some of the local spots there. Every bite was full of fresh ingredients and perfect seasoning. Highly recommend to anyone who loves real Thai food!!!!

I stopped at Yum Yai Street Thai for dinner and was impressed. I sat at the bar and ordered with the bartender. The service was phenomenal, the drink (Thai Tea w/ bourbon) was a well made beverage and experience, and the food, Chicken Pad Thai, was really good. This place would be a great for date night. Overall, this was an amazing experience while visiting Birmingham. I'll definitely come back if I'm in the area again!

Absolutely excellent dining experience. My service here with Minnie was hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. I made it in just before their 2pm break for lunch, and I am so glad I did. From start to finish, everything was incredible. This is one of those restaurants where you have to come back multiple times because there’s no way you can try everything in one visit unless you come with a big group and order everything. The menu is loaded, and every single thing I ordered was flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The service was immaculate. Everyone checked on me, asked if I needed anything, and worked together as a team not “my table vs. your table,” but true hospitality. I love that kind of environment. The mocktail menu deserves its own shoutout so many great options. I had the cucumber mint mocktail (three times ), and it was perfect every time. Cocktails looked great too. For food, I ordered the Thai wings, which were sticky, small crunch, and packed with flavor honestly how chicken wings should taste. Then I had the Fire & Fin fish, a whole red snapper served with fire sauce, sweet sauce, and rice. A solid 10 out of 10. The snapper was huge, beautifully cooked, and incredibly flavorful. Between the food, the service, and the atmosphere, this place is a must-try. If you live in Birmingham or are visiting, I highly recommend it. I’ll definitely be back multiple times because there are way too many things on the menu I still need to try. I heard 2 tables say the same thing while there so be prepared to be wowed!
